Cannot build it We cannot right the wrong We cannot nor ever will belong We are not enlightened We are not strong All this we have been told for far too long That we are weak That we are meek Too self-absorbed Too many grammatical mistakes Too quick to love Too quick to hate
To this I must retort What do you know of history? Surely you know that we, as a group, Did not cause the Cold War Have not objectified women Have not hated homosexuals Have not waged war for the Dollar Nor was it we who first asked “Is Obama a Muslim?” We are thought of as apathetic As self-loving All the negatives that come with youth Amplified and magnified by ten But the truth remains Our accusers have blood on their hands Laid waste to their own generation Crashed and burned in a comedic horror With the great crunch and bang and blast that one would expect From the burning wreck of a plane Whose pilot bailed without so much as a word Too little was changed But that, we are fixing
We are like a patch on a coat Not the best solution Not the perfect fix But we ARE a fix and fix we will.
We will build it We will right the wrong We will, we all will, belong We are enlightened We are strong.
